The fabric for this quilt was an impulse buy at the Spring Quilt Festival at Westpoint, Exeter. I promised myself at the beginning of the year that impulse purchases would be used straight away and not tucked into the stash and forgotten about for months.

The pattern is a Dissapearing Nine Patch, a block I've never tried before and the floral fabrics all seemed to represent springtime to me. With so many busy fabrics I decided that simple quilting was all that was needed and so an all over grid with the walking foot I also just happened to buy at the show finishes it off nicely.

What a beautiful quilt, I think my favourite fabric is the one that looks a little like a photograph would.

I love how your floral fabrics happily dance all throughout this quilt. I've made only 1 disappearing 9 patch so far. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to making more. I found you via Freemotion by the river link up. Nice to meet you. Take care.

Your quilt turned out lovely! I've been wanting to try a subway baby quilt. What is the tip for getting the various sizes square. Do you use a plastic template for marking & cutting. I know sewing seams the same size. I have only done basic block baby quilts. If you have any tips I'd love to know!

Thanks for your kind comments, I'm sure you will enjoy making your own version of this, it's much easier than it looks. I started by cutting 6.5 inch squares of nine different fabrics and sewing them together to create a traditional nine patch block. Then measure the block to find the centre and cut the block in half top to bottom through the middle column. Now do the same through the middle column side to side. You will have created four mini blocks each having one large square, two rectangles and one small square. Rearrange these until you find a placement that pleases you and sew them back together into a single block. Repeat until you have as many blocks as you need and then sew the blocks together. For more detailed instructions try googling Dissapearing Nine Patch. I would encourage you to have a go as it is easy to put together but looks as though you have spent ages cutting lots of different sized pieces. Good luck

I was hoping other people would see flowers dancing across the quilt, that's exactly the effect I was trying to create. Thanks for the kind words.
